To Be PrEPared or Not To Be PrEPared

The Role of The Pharmacist in HIV Prevention

As pharmacists we are more accessible to patients than other healthcare providers, and our extensive knowledge and training with regards to medications puts is in the PERFECT position to be able to furnish PrEP and PEP to our patients.

PrEP and PEP furnished by pharmacists will increase patient adherence rates; further improving PrEP and PEP outcomes. At the end of this letter are a number of studies that demonstrate the impact of pharmacists in improving adherence and outcomes in people living with HIV.

As pharmacists and Healthcare Providers we are pharmacology experts and highly trained with regards to drug-drug interactions, adverse effects and the kinetics and mechanisms of drugs.
